Sisterhood: A personal perspective

  • “I understand that as I wake up each morning on this side of freedom, I have a gift that comes with a responsibility.”
  • "I have covered Sudan numerous times on television, and I speak about it everywhere I go. But there is real resistance to hearing it...We have a problem of inaction that we must solve."

About My Sister's Keeper

A7My Sister's Keeper is a human rights initiative in Sudan, and an education and advocacy initiative in America.

We are in partnership with our sisters in a rural area of southern Sudan.

The work includes projects such as schools and food-preparation technology, as well as spiritual, psychological and nutrition counseling. We maintain staff in Sudan, plus US-based volunteers who have committed to traveling regularly to Sudan, plus a network of supporters and advocates in communities across America.

Vision Statement

My Sister’s Keeper envisions a world where women all across the globe can imagine, create and sustain vibrant and joyous communities.

Mission Statement

MSK assists, protects and advocates for formerly enslaved women of southern Sudan who live in Gogrial County.

MSK exists to be a friend to these women: We listen to their stories, we learn about their needs and we support their aspirations for economic, educational and physical vitality.

MSK is a catalyst for change: We harness and provide human, financial and knowledge resources to the women and communities we serve.

Values Statement

We carry out this vision and mission with humility and with joy. We have been empowered by God, and likewise, we respond to God’s call to connectedness, to sisterhood and to service.
